Higher Medical Institute

In 1952, the Higher Medical Institute was founded, an educational institution created to meet Albania's great needs for doctors and qualified health personnel. At that time, the country had a great shortage of specialists in the medical field, and the creation of this institution was a crucial step for the development of medical education and the improvement of the health system.
The Higher Medical Institute was the predecessor of the Faculty of Medicine, which would later consolidate itself as one of the main academic institutions in Albania for the education and training of doctors. It was founded with the support of local and foreign experts, following the best models of medical education of the time.

Faculty of Medicine

The Faculty of Medicine has been part of the University of Tirana since its establishment in 1957, as one of its six faculties. This educational institution has been the cradle of the formation of thousands of doctors, who, under the leadership of its professors and pedagogues, have contributed to the transformation of the Albanian healthcare system. The history and greatness of this faculty are not based only on scientific literature, monographs, lectures or academic papers, but above all on countless lives saved, on the dedication and professionalism of generations of doctors who have emerged from its auditoriums.
