History of the Faculty of Dental Medicine

The history of the Faculty of Dental Medicine begins with the establishment of the Dentistry Department in 1959. The Dentistry Department was created within the Faculty of Medicine and was represented by three internal faculty members: Dr. Dhori Pojani, Dr. Osman Hoxha, and Dr. Dhimitra Lira, as well as two external faculty members: Dr. Xhevdet Asllani and Dr. Skender Topulli. This team of educators was the first initiator of dental studies in the Republic of Albania.

In 1964, the Dentistry Department was organized into three main chairs: the Chair of Dental Therapy, the Chair of Dental Surgery, and the Chair of Dental Orthopedics.

The Faculty of Dental Medicine, as an independent structure, was established in 2013 by a decision of the Council of Ministers (VKM No. 43), separating from the Faculty of Medicine. Currently, the Faculty is divided into three specialized departments: the Department of Dental Therapy, the Department of Oro-Maxillofacial and Paraclinical Surgery, and the Department of Dental Orthopedics.
