Nursing has existed in various forms in every culture and its practice has changed greatly over time. Nursing, in the sense it has today, dates back to the time of the Crimean War, when Florence Nightingale (1820 – 1910), laid the foundation for professional nursing.
Në Shqipëri, në vitin 1910, kujdesi infermieror ushtrohej në mënyrë individuale nga gra të arsimuara jashtë vendit. Më 30 Dhjetor 1921 përshkruhen të dhënat e para mbi zhvillimin e infermieristikës si profesion edhe si shërbim, me edukimin, shkollimin dhe formimin përkatës. Ishte Kryqi i Kuq Shqiptar, i cili themeloi në Tiranë Shkollën e Infermierëve…
