COST – European Cooperation in Science and Technology
What is COST?
COST (European Cooperation in Science and Technology) is a European organization that supports international cooperation between researchers and innovators in Europe and beyond. Since its establishment in 1971, COST has played a key role in strengthening scientific and technological research through the creation of networks called “COST Actions”.
What is the purpose of COST?
COST aims to:
• Promote interdisciplinary and international collaboration between researchers. • Improve research and innovation capacities in Europe. • Facilitate the development of new solutions to societal, technological and scientific challenges.
What are “COST Actions”?
“COST Actions” are research networks that bring together researchers and experts from different countries to work on specific topics. These actions:
• They are open to all scientific disciplines. • They usually last 4 years. • They enable the exchange of knowledge, the organization of meetings, workshops and other collaborative activities.
Who can participate?
Participation in COST is open to:
• Researchers and innovators from academic institutions, research centers, industry and other relevant organizations. • All career levels, from doctoral students to professors and senior experts.
How to apply for a “COST Action”?
1. Identify a topic of common interest: Gather an international group of interested researchers to work on a specific topic.
2. Submit a project proposal, or become part of an existing project proposal: Proposals are submitted through the official COST platform and are evaluated on the basis of scientific merit and strategic relevance.
3. Implementation of the action: If approved, the action begins with the organization of collaborative activities according to the envisaged plan.
