Faculty of Medical and Technical Sciences

Nursing has evolved from early practices into a structured and professional profession with great importance for health. Florence Nightingale is recognized as the founder of modern nursing, transforming this profession into an art that requires special skills. In Albania, the development of nursing began on December 30, 1921, when the Albanian Red Cross founded the School of Nurses in Tirana. Later, technical schools and schools for nurses were opened, offering training in preventive medicine and hygiene.

In 1994, the School of Nursing became the Faculty of Nursing at the University of Tirana. This faculty has included study programs for nursing, midwifery, physiotherapy and other health professions. In 2013, the Faculty of Nursing became part of the University of Medicine, Tirana, under the name Faculty of Medical and Technical Sciences (FSHMT), which offers Bachelor's, Master's, and third-cycle "Doctorate" studies in the relevant fields of health and nursing sciences.
