In 1959, the Department of Dentistry was established at the Faculty of Medicine, initially represented by a group of internal and external lecturers. In 1964, this department was organized into three separate departments: the Department of Therapy, the Department of Surgery and the Department of Dental Orthopedics. After a successful period, in 1998, these three departments were merged and formed a single Department, which remained so until 2011, when three new sections were created: Therapy, Oro-Maxillo-Facial Surgery and Dental Orthopedics, which were integrated into the Basic Unit of Dentistry.
The Faculty of Dental Medicine, as an independent structure, was established in 2013, through a decision of the Council of Ministers (VKM No. 43), separating from the Faculty of Medicine. Currently, the Faculty is divided into three specialized departments: the Department of Dental Therapy, the Department of Oro-Maxillo-Facial and Preclinical Surgery, and the Department of Dental Orthopedics.
