The establishment of the Faculty of Medicine dates back to 1952, with the creation of the Higher Medical Institute, the first higher education institution in the field of medicine in Albania. This institute was created in response to the great need for doctors and qualified health personnel in the country, at a time when the lack of specialists posed a serious challenge for the Albanian healthcare system.
In 1957, with the establishment of the University of Tirana, the Higher Medical Institute was transformed into the Faculty of Medicine, one of the six founding faculties of the university. In 2013, the Faculty of Medicine became part of the University of Medicine, Tirana.
With decades of experience and collaborations with international and national institutions, the Faculty of Medicine has made an important contribution to the education and specialization of generations of health professionals, influencing the healthcare service at the national level.
