The University of Medicine, Tirana (UMT) offers third-cycle study programs “Doctorate”, with the aim of preparing qualified professionals and scientific researchers at the highest levels of medical sciences. These programs are oriented toward the advancement of scientific knowledge, professional development, and support of innovation in the respective fields.

Currently, UMT offers 14 doctoral programs in the Albanian language, which include a wide range of specialties within the health sciences.

Within the framework of internationalization and the improvement of academic quality, UMT has established cooperation with the University of Bologna in Italy, offering 3 joint doctoral programs in the fields of internal medicine, surgery, and obstetrics-gynecology. These international programs provide students with the opportunity to benefit from the academic and scientific expertise of two prestigious institutions.

Every doctoral dissertation, prior to publication, undergoes a mandatory anti-plagiarism verification process through the respective platform, in accordance with the standards of scientific integrity. The publication of doctoral dissertations is a legal obligation, defined by the legal framework in force for higher education and scientific research in the Republic of Albania. Every candidate who successfully completes doctoral studies is required to publish the dissertation on the official platform of the University and in the National Library.
